I first grabbed this Make Up Revolution Super Wow stick in my haul in January, but I only just got around to trying it today, so this is a First Impressions post!
There are eight shades in the Super Wow collection, which is part of MUR’s I ❤ Makeup range. Each shade is named after a song by Blondie, and this one is called Maria. Given MUR’s fixation on the weird unicorn and mermaid trend, it’s a weird choice, but I love Blondie so I’ll let them off. This time.
It’s just a pity the product doesn’t live up to the hype.
The MUR website describes them as;
- Super Intense Cream Matte shades
- Easy to apply
They’re certainly intense and matte, and they are easy to apply, although I ended up needing to use a lip brush to neaten up the edges. Even then, it’s not perfect.
This is how dark it ended up on my lips. Given the swatch on the website, I was expecting more of a reddish brown, not a deep vampy red. Never mind. If it’s waterproof, it should last for hours, yeah? One of the reviews on the site said it didn’t transfer or smudge and that’s true, but it did start to flake off. This is how it looked after just a couple of hours, including drinking and eating my dinner.
Doesn’t look too bad, does it? Wait a second…
This looks gross, doesn’t it? I’m used this kind of effect with liquid lipsticks, where they flake off at the point where the lips meet, but I wasn’t expecting it with a lip crayon that’s supposed to be waterproof. A few hours later, it was even fading at the edges.
Would I recommend it? Not in the slightest. It’s only £1.99 and it looks beautiful at first- it also has the advantage of not making the lips feel like every ounce of moisture has been sucked out of them like you get with liquid lipsticks. But its lasting power is abysmal, and having a blunt crayon tip makes it difficult to get a precise application.
