[Review] Make Up Revolution Black Heart

I popped into my local Superdrug on Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised to see that they’ve started stocking Make Up Revolution! It’s nowhere near the full line but it’s nice to be able to look at the eye palettes in particular before purchase, and I got my eye on the lip products.

Unfortunately they’d sold out of the Amazing Lipstick in 100% Vamp, but they did have the Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in Black Heart, which I decided to try instead! I’ve tried their Ultra Velour lip cream before (review) but I wondered if they’re changed the formula.

I love that rose gold packaging they use for their boxes.

It looks like a super dark purple in the tube, doesn’t it?

It comes with a doe foot applicator, though I highly recommend using a lip brush for more precision.

Make Up Revolution Black Velvet lip lacquerBlack Heart is a gorgeous colour, essentially an incredibly dark purple rather than a black, and the formula means it dries matte. It’s a lovely shade, and lives up to its name.

The outer edges were amazing and barely budged, and there wasn’t any noticeable feathering (although I did apply the edges with a lip brush). In terms of colour intensity it was a definite win. BUT.

The lip lacquer dries so matte that it flakes off along the inner sides of the lips that meet each other, and it required a retouch after eating, and also just every couple of hours. It was incredibly drying and after a while it  didn’t feel at all comfortable on the lips.

That said, it is only £3 at the moment (find it here on their website) and it’s the perfect shade for Halloween, so it’s not exactly going to break the bank!

(Incidentally, I’m also wearing Make Up Revolution on my eyes, using shadows from the Ultra Flawless Mattes palette!)
