These are a few of my favourite things!

home-office-336377_640Day 14 of the September Blogging Challenge already! I’m a bit scared by how quickly September is going. The theme today is ‘Your favourite things about blogging’. I love this theme!

I also love blogging. I’ve been doing it for at least six years, but I wouldn’t keep doing it if I didn’t get anything out of it. At the moment I run three blogs, for writing, make up, and crafting, but in the past I’ve also contributed to blogs for writing and fiction. So why do I do it?

Community

When I first started blogging, I loved the fact that there was a sense of community. Someone commented on your blog, so you went and commented on theirs, and then you became regular visitors to each others’ blogs. I’ve noticed a real drop-off in this – these days, there seems to be more emphasis on the retweet and less on the actual commenting on content, and I do think this is a real shame. That said, I talk to a lot of bloggers over on Twitter or Instagram, and it’s wonderful to be able to meet people with similar interests and have a bit of a chat throughout the day. Blogging can be such a supportive place!

Sharing passions

I’m old enough to remember the days when having an Angelfire website or a Faceparty account, or being in a Yahoo group, was the closest you got to a social media presence, and blogging definitely makes it a lot easier to share your passions! Whether you’re interested in vegan cooking, papercraft, photography or pet care, you can guarantee there will be a range of blogs to suit you.

Writing

Social media is all well and good but as much as I love Pinterest, or chatting on Twitter, or sharing images on Instagram, I always come back to blogging if I want to write anything of any length. I’ve always loved stringing words together and blogging gives me a way to record my thoughts, and to share what I know with others – which is really what this is all about!

Do you blog, and if you do, what drives you?
